Is this the start of a revolution?

As the Government continues to eviscerate general practice, it may seem a bit hollow to celebrate the most influential GPs in the UK.

But Pulse’s Power 50 list is a great opportunity to showcase a profession that is achieving great things, despite considerable headwinds and whatever politicians, and the national media, may say.

The list is compiled from over 450 nominations from Pulse readers and, of course, many familiar GPs feature in the list. But it is striking this year how many new faces are included.

Names included for the first time are exciting new GP voices such as Dr Stephanie de Giorgio, Dr Zoe Norris and Dr Hamed Khan.

Another generation of leaders is emerging, often insurgent, social-media savvy and angry about where general practice is heading. And they are often not coming through the usual channels of the BMA or the RCGP.

This energy is vital to invigorate the profession and ensure that it emerges stronger from the battles ahead. We will watch them with interest.
