As chief executive of the King's Fund, Professor Ham remains a influential voice in the debate over the future of the NHS. As the head of arguably the UK's most influential health policy think tank, he has consistently argued that redesigning the NHS to become more integrated is the only way it can survive. Although his influence is beyond doubt, he is a divisive figure among GPs. As one of our panel put it: ‘He has an understanding of practice, but a faith in the market unfazed by the rank unfairness of the American system.'
