As the Department of Health national director of improvement and efficiency, Jim Easton has his work cut out to kick NHS finances into shape. The NHS made £5.8bn in QIPP savings last year and is on target to do so again this year, but is still a long way from the £20bn required. NHS chief executive Sir David Nicholson has also warned thatmore radical service changes are now needed to make further savings, making the task even tougher. As one member of our panel says: ‘He will be a key person in transforming the NHS.' Don't put your feet up just yet, Jim.
