39. Dr Anthony James

New to the Pulse Power 50 this year, Dr Anthony James is only in his ST3 year as a GP trainee and yet has already made his mark on general practice.

As part of his work as health adviser for LGBT+ media brand PinkNews, Dr James set up an undergraduate recruitment fair in September 2018 for LGBT+ future leaders, which was attended by over 500 undergraduates.

The event had a ‘health stream’, which Dr James chaired, and saw various senior healthcare professionals discuss their roles and the importance of being openly LGBT+ in the workplace with hundreds of undergraduates from across the UK.

In a recent blog for Pulse, Dr James wrote about his experience of being LGBT+ and what it means to create an inclusive environment.

The campaigner also wrote about a programme of work he has been involved in this year, including the development of new e-learning resources, face-to-face teaching events and a national campaign to make general practice a more inclusive environment.

Later this year, he will also be authoring several of the new LGBT+ learning modules for the RCGP’s new programme of work, and leading the development of a new national LGBT+ inclusion campaign. This follows the scrapping of RCGP’s e-learning course for GPs on gender variance earlier this year.
