At the heart of general practice since 1960

Dr Dillon may have only recently qualified as a GP but she’s already helping colleagues to share their skills and build portfolio careers.

Having decided to ditch plastic surgery for general practice, Dr Dillon found there was no easy way to get her skills recognised and use them in primary care. So she created GP+ Networking, a website that allows existing GPs and those considering a career in general practice to network and privately communicate based on their background interests and extended roles.

‘Having voiced my thoughts on the need to harness all skills within our GP workforce at a parliamentary meeting, I realised that what was required at the grassroots level was not there so I decided to create it’ she says.

The Somerset GP received encouragement from senior figures at the BMA, RCGP and Health Education England and says her greatest achievement is ‘pushing forward as an individual despite financial uncertainty and red tape’.

Dr Dillon has already been a high achiever throughout her short GP career: at the end of her ST3 she won the RCGP Great Expectation bursary, the Somerset GP trainee award and the Leadership Excellence award for the South West.

What to watch next year: She intends to expand GP+ Networking’s user base and get funding through grants and sponsorship.
