Monitor

Monitor is currently the independent regulator of NHS foundation trusts. Established in January 2004 to authorise and regulate NHS foundation trusts, Monitor is independent of central government and directly accountable to Parliament. Under the government´s proposed NHS reforms, Monitor will take on the role of economic regulator for health and adult social car, licensing providers of NHS services in England as well as regulating prices, promoting competition and supporting service continuity.
