More patients waiting for treatment, NHS figures show

Over 300,000 more patients are on NHS waiting lists, compared with the start of the year, official figures reveal.

NHS England figures show that 2,876,836 patients had been referred by their GP and were waiting for treatment in June 2013, compared to 2,537,530 in January 2013.

However, 94.6% of patients in June 2013 were seen within the optimum time of 18 weeks, up 3% since January.

The report comes after Pulse reported struggling A&E departments will receive a £500m bailout for stretched accident and emergency departments
