Telehealth consultations will be an `everyday reality’ within 10 years

GPs will routinely be performing telehealth consultations within a decade, according to a GP expert on digital health.

Dr Kartik Modha, a GP in London who is chair of myhealthspecialist.com and founder of online networking forum Tiko’s GP Group, told Pulse: `The birth of the digital era means that a new generation of doctors are becoming GPs, already equipped with the tools of online connectivity. Social media represents an opportunity to engage with peers nationally and patients on their own turf.’

`Through online professional conversations we are learning at increasingly faster rates and I predict telehealth consults will be an everyday reality within the decade.’

Dr Modha will present a session on digital health at Pulse Live, the new national event for GPs taking place on 30 April and 1 May in Birmingham. He will cover the role of social media, how apps, forums and websites can help GPs in their practice, and how to set up your own digital project.

He commented: `Maintaining strict patient confidentiality and adhering to GMC guidance on good clinical practice is essential, but as scientists we must embrace the future lest we allow others to write it for us.’

Pulse Live is your comprehensive annual update on all today’s big clinical, contract and practice finance changes. You can earn 14 CPD hours for attending both days (or 7 hours for one day).
