Jeremy Hunt to run as candidate to replace PM Theresa May

Former health secretary Jeremy Hunt is to stand as a candidate to lead the Conservative Party and replace Prime Minister Theresa May.

According to local media reports in his constituency of South West Surrey, he confirmed his bid at Haslemere Festival this morning.

Mr Hunt, who is currently foreign secretary, indicated he would provide official details at a later stage, saying he would ‘make the announcement on my own candidacy at the appropriate moment’ in a video posted by Farnham Herald.

Ms May announced she would be resigning as prime minister on 7 June after MPs failed to back her Brexit agreement.

In a speech she gave at Downing Street today, Ms May pointed to the NHS long-term plan and funding for mental health as some of her major achievements in office.

Mr Hunt praised the prime minister earlier today, highlighting the 'huge task' she had of delivering Brexit.

He said that 'thanks to her support' the NHS would receive an additional £20bn, referring to the extra money pledged as part of the NHS long-term plan - of which primary and community care will receive £4.5bn.

'I want to pay tribute to the PM today. Delivering Brexit was always going to be a huge task, but one she met every day with courage & resolve. NHS will have an extra £20bn thanks to her support, and she leaves the country safer and more secure. A true public servant,' said Mr Hunt on Twitter.

I am so ‘proud’ of my previous ‘predictions ‘ :
Sarah Wollaston quitting the Tory Party and now , Agent Hunt possibly to become our next PM.
Welcome to the jungle( of politics) . Truth is , there is no such thing called ‘ good guy’ in politics. It is all about who has got more political energy .
Mojo-Bojo may be the top favourite but if you have been following the stories of US-China trade war and Huawei, you know British government might just play a middle-man character in the this looming new Cold War . A British prime minister with a Chinese wife might be either advantageous or treacherous , depending on the political circumstances.
    Fascinating politics ........

  • Agent Hunt on the hunt. With the trade war, Britain might prevent world war 3 being a middleman.
