Scottish junior doctors committee elects new chair

The BMA’s Scottish Junior Doctors Committee has elected Dr David Reid, a trainee in West of Scotland, as its new chair.

Dr Reid, previously held the position of deputy chair of the committee leading on education and training issues.

He graduated from Edinburgh University Medical School in 2008 and is currently a specialty trainee in renal medicine.

Dr Reid said: ‘This is an exciting time to be leading Scotland’s junior doctors. We are working with colleagues in the rest of the UK to negotiate a new contract which will hopefully bring the contract up to date to reflect modern training practice.

‘At a time when the NHS is facing cuts in real terms funding, it is increasingly important that the quality and standards of medical training are protected to ensure that patients in Scotland can be reassured that they are receiving the best possible care from a service delivered by fully trained doctors.’
