Pulse names the country’s 50 most influential GPs

Pulse has published its sixth annual list of the most influential GPs in the UK, with a third of the names new this year.

Topping the list is GPC chair Dr Chaand Nagpaul who was nominated by colleagues for leading with ‘skill and diplomacy’ and being a ‘great voice for general practice at a difficult time’.

Also in the top three are chief inspector of general practice Professor Steve Field and RCGP chair Dr Maureen Baker.

Resilient GP co-founder Dr Stephanie de Giorgio has jumped straight in at number seven, after standing up at the RCGP conference and telling health secretary Jeremy Hunt that GPs are ‘exhausted, drowning and quite frankly furious with you’ and asking: ‘What are you going to do about it?

Other new entries include Sir Sam Everington, national chief adviser on new models of general practice, newly-elected RCGP president Dr Terry Kemple and blogger and campaigner Dr Zoe Norris.

Pulse compiles the Power 50 annually with the help of hundreds of nominations from GP readers. It also compiles a list of ‘rising stars’ - this year topped by Doncaster LMC medical secretary Dr Dean Eggitt, who is described as ‘the exciting new voice of the GPC’.

  • There were 450 nominators resulting in 50 names. Can Pulse publish the numbers for each nominated person on the list please?

  • This is a farce. How can somebody (no. 48 on the list) be included when claiming' to be careful not to comment too much on the current woes of GPs due to lack of recent first hand experience' (ie retired 5 years ago.
