Sugary foods may have to be taxed, government puts £7.6m more into mental health and people drink more at weddings

A health minister has warned that sugary foods may have to be taxed to cover the costs of treating obesity, says the Daily Telegraph.

George Freeman, the life sciences minister, said food companies should face penalties for promoting food that could lead to unhealthy lifestyles and ill health.

Meanwhile, the BBC reports an extra £7.6m a year will be invested to improve mental health services for children and young people in Wales.

Finally, the Guardian reports that researchers say most surveys on typical drinking habits do not include alcohol consumed during celebrations such as weddings and birthdays.

They also conclude that people drink more at weddings – comments about Popes being Catholics and bears’ toilet habits abound.
