This article will provide a primary care focused overview of how to manage patients with halitosis:
- Taking a history and examining the oral cavity
- Identifying possible causes, including, poor oral hygiene, necrotising ulcerative gingivitis, drug-related or salivary causes for example
- Reassuring patients with psychogenic halitosis
- Advising patients on good oral hygiene
- Discussing prognosis with patients
