Veteran GP turned NHS trust chairman, Dr Kailash Chand, has been awarded the Order of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours in recognition of his services to the NHS.
Dr Chand spent 25 years as a GP in Ashton-Under-Lyne, before becoming taking up his current post as chairman of NHS Tameside and Glossop.
He graduated from medical school at Patiala, in Punjab, going on to become a long term GPC member and well-known media commentator on primary care, on top of a distinguished career in general practice.
This culminated with him being named the RCGP's GP of the Year last year as well as receiving a senior fellowship from the BMA.
On his OBE, Dr Chand told Pulse: ‘I would like to dedicate this to everyone in general practice, which is still my passion.'
BMA chair Dr Hamish Meldrum said: ‘Both locally and nationally, Kailash has been in the forefront of representing the best interests of the profession, patients and the NHS.'
