3. Ben Dyson

Ben Dyson is in charge of GP contracts at NHS England and his drive for continuity of care could help shape the debate this year.

Up three places from sixth position last year, he has continued to be seen as a man of quiet influence through two successive governments - as befits a career civil servant. Mr Dyson steered the Labour government’s access drive and took a more recent role in leading the coalition Government’s commissioning reforms.

According to our panel he has ‘great skills, knowledge and ability’. But it´s a make or break year for Ben Dyson as far as GPs are concerned as talks begin over the new GP contract and the detail of the Government´s proposals for ‘named GPs’ become clear.
