Described as a hero for speaking out over the clinical skills examination at the LMCs Conference, Dr Jameel counts herself lucky to have passed the exam herself this year.
She says: ‘Being an international medical graduate of Indian descent and a trainee from a deanery which hasn’t the best pass rates, the prospects were all rather fear inducing.
‘Having spoken out about the apparent unfairness of the CSA on national platforms, I knew it would not be easy. And so what a sense of relief when I finally passed all my exams and CCTed in August. I remain indebted to my trainer, training practice and practice group who saw me through this.’
She is a member of the BMA Junior Doctors Committee and the GPC, and says that she wants to continue representing her peers.
She says: ‘I hope to continue pursuing the concerns raised over the MRCGP examination. I look forward to seeing more female medical leaders come to the forefront and ideally would like to see a change in attitude of the Government that in the recent months appear to have adopted a GP- and hospital doctor-bashing culture.’
She is still finding her feet as a newly qualified GP, but already says she wants to specialist in women’s health.
She says: ‘I would like to develop and further invest in my skill set as a GP and so having a keen interest in women’s health and already having taken the DRCOG, this year is dedicated to completing the DFSRH. I am also considering pursuing a further post graduate degree.’
