Vision Award Winners 2011

Practical Commissioning editor Sue McNulty introduces this year's Vision Award winners

‘It's nice to get some recognition,' one winner said to me after the awards dinner this year. In my experience, people who work in the NHS tend to be less self-promoting than in other sectors.

I couldn't tell you the psychology behind this. One theory might be that you're too busy with the important day job of looking after patients to pause and reflect on what you've achieved. And in that sense, I'd like to think the Vision Awards do provide an impetus to review your achievements and share them with others.

One of the things I really liked about this year's awards was to see so many new faces at the gala dinner. Looking through the entries has revealed to me a wide range of clinical commissioning groups we've yet to feature in Practical Commissioning.

Another distinguishing feature of this year's entries was their testimonials from CCG partners such as local authority chief executives and acute trusts – signs that CCGs really are making their mark positively on their local community.

The links below showcase the winners of this year's Vision Awards.

For some, the awards are something of a swan song as commissioning groups in their current form, before they merge over the next 12 months with others to become a larger CCG.

Reading through the winners' synopses, it's hard not to sense the energy and commitment of clinical commissioners.

Thanks again to our judges, whose job seems to get harder every year as the quality of entries improves. And, of course, thanks to our sponsors, who make the awards possible.
