NICE has recommended liraglutide as a treatment for some patients with type 2 diabetes who are not controlled adequately on two diabetes treatments.
Their final appraisal determination says liraglutide 1.2 mg should only be used in combination with two other therapies - metformin and a sulfonylurea, or metformin and a thiazolidinedione - when control of blood glucose remains inadequate, and the person is severely obese with psychological or medical problems associated with high body weight, or insulin therapy is not appropriate.
