Nationals cover NICE cancer guidance, skinny jeans get a health warning and BMA votes on review of rules on driving with dementia

The Telegraph covers NICE’s new cancer guidance, stating that GPs will be given a ‘checklist’ of symptoms to help them spot cancer for first time in a bid to prevent at least half of needless deaths.

NICE believes that delays in referring cancer patients are costing 10,000 lives a year.

Skinny jeans have been given a health warning, says a BBC report, because they can seriously damage muscles and nerves.

A 35-year-old woman had to be cut out of a pair after her calves ballooned in size, according to the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry. After spending hours squatting to empty cupboards for a house move in Australia her feet were numb and she found it hard to walk by the evening.

Finally, delegates at the BMA’s annual conference will vote of changing the rules around driving with a dementia diagnosis amid concerns the current system has failed to keep up with the rising number of elderly drivers, reports the Independent.

A motion to be voted on at the BMA’s annual representative meeting in Liverpool today will propose that the union’s Board of Science review the issue and provide frontline workers, including GPs, with new guidance.
