NICE is looking to develop QOF indicators on the management of patients with multiple long-term conditions, with potential indicators to be discussed when advisors meet next month.
The move comes after NICE chair Professor David Haslam told a Pulse Live conference the organisation was committed to developing clinical guidance on managing multimorbidity.
The introduction of indicators incorporating multiple conditions would signal a departure from the more traditional single-condition process measures included in QOF up to now, although NICE is currently considering a controversial multicomponent indicator in one condition – diabetes – that could be introduced next year.
Three other potential new topic areas will also be discussed at the two-day meeting – on ‘parity of esteem’ for mental and physical health, outcomes and integrated care.
