Block back

Practical Commissioning's Jargon Buster explains the meaning of the term 'Block back'.

This is the term used when GPs are given a indicative budget and decide which areas of the budget they are going to commission services for.

So for example the GPs might decide they wish to commission outpatient services but not community services so they give the latter budget back to the PCT.

And so you would say ‘we blocked back the community services budget to the PCT.'
