National picture for Transforming Community Services revealed

Just 25 per cent of community services could be transferred to the acute sector, David Stout of the NHS Confederation has revealed

Speaking at a King's Fund conference in London on Tuesday, Mr Stout, PCT network director for the NHS Confederation said: ‘I was at the reference group on TCS today and there was some feedback given there roughly on what the picture looks like and it is more varied than you might imagine.

‘These are the proposals in the current state of play - could all change once the assurance process finishes - 25 per cent of services being considered for acute ,15 per cent with mental health, 15 - 20 per cent with local govt – though no one seems to have cracked the organisational structure yet - 8 community foundation trusts a smattering of social enterprises and a smattering remaining in direct provision of the PCT.'

PCTs have until the end of the month to agree ‘in principal' with their SHA on a new organisational form for their community services.

The deadline has prompted speculation that most community services will go to acute trusts.

At the same conference one delegate shared how a GP had written to their PCT to express an interest in being involved in the reforms and received a reply saying it was ‘an internal matter'.

Similar complaints have been made by other GPs.
