New tool developed to commission CKD services

A new tool has been launched to help commissioners and providers deliver world class care for chronic kidney disease (CKD).

PCT profiles of kidney disease have been developed by NHS Kidney Care working with the East Midlands Public Health Observatory to enable commissioners to assess local kidney care need and current service levels. This will inform planning, helping to improve the quality of services.

Each profile includes a map indicating drive time to the nearest kidney care centre, CKD QOF summaries, chronic renal failure mortality rates and an indication of renal spend compared with need.

The PCT profiles can be downloaded from the NHS Kidney Care under ‘our work programmes'.
