GP re-elected to chair influential MP health committee

House of Commons MPs have re-elected former GP Dr Sarah Wollaston to lead the health select committee.

The Conservative MP for Totnes had led the committee since succeeding Stephen Dorrell last summer and up until the general election.

The secret ballot of MPs saw Dr Wollaston fighting off competition from astrology and homeopathy advocate David Tredinnick.

During the last Parliament, Dr Wollaston challenged the Government on a number of GP-related issues, including the recruitment crisis, seven-day access and patient record-sharing.

The House of Commons Health Committee examines the policy, administration and expenditure of the Department of Health.
