Dr Helen Jervis has become clinical lead in one of England's first shadow GP consortia.
A GP in Temple Sowerby, Cumbria, she is heading up one of six consortia set up to take on commissioning budgets, ahead of the full handover from PCTs.
She urged GPs to overcome their nerves over the white paper, saying: ‘There is a fear among GPs that they will have to master every element of commissioning and that it will be too much for them.
‘The reality is that there will be much more advice and support for them than there was for the trailblazers.'
