Former GPC Scotland chair Dr Dean Marshall has been elected to the GPC's UK negotiating team, with current negotiator Dr Beth McCarron-Nash losing out.
Dr Marshall, a GP in Midlothian in Scotland, will serve a three year-term, alongside current negotiators Dr Richard Vautrey, Dr Chaand Nagpaul and Dr Peter Holden, who were all re-elected for further one-year terms.
The result from the GPC's meeting in Edinburgh today means that Dr McCarron-Nash, the GPC's youngest and only female negotiator and a GP in St Columb Major in Cornwall, will leave her post. Dr McCarron-Nash has led on workforce and training issues since she was elected in 2008.
Dr Marshall has negotiated alongside the UK team as chair of GPC Scotland since 2006.
Commenting on his decision to stand earlier this week, he said: ‘It was a very difficult decision to make to decide whether to stand because the other negotiators have been my colleagues for the last five or six years and they are a good team.'
‘However in the situation we find ourselves in, where in England we are at crisis point… I think I can make a difference and that my skills are needed.'
