New chief executive named by RCGP

The RCGP has appointed Neil Hunt, former chief executive of the Alzheimer's Society, as its new chief executive.

RCGP chair Dr Clare Gerada said: ‘Neil has an impressive track record in the health sector. We are delighted that he will be bringing his extensive experience of service delivery and achievement of results to the RCGP at such a crucial time for the College and general practice.'

Mr Hunt, who will join the organisation in January, succeeding current chief executive Hilary De Lyon, said: ‘The Government white paper and the increasingly complex environment of general practice make this an exciting time to be joining the College.'

'I have a lifelong commitment to health and am strongly attracted to the mission and goals of the RCGP. I look forward to leading the senior management team and staff of the College to deliver results and serve the needs of the College's 42,000 members.'
