By Ian Quinn

Veteran GP-turned-PCT chair Dr Kailash Chand has received the Order of the British Empire from the Princess Royal, after being recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours for his services to the NHS.

Dr Chand spent 25 years as a GP in Ashton-under-Lyne, before taking up his current post as chairman of NHS Tameside and Glossop.

He said: ‘Receiving this honour from Her Majesty is a source of immense pride for me.'

'The NHS is one of this country's finest achievements and it is greatly humbling to be recognised for my small part in it. I hope to live up to this honour by continuing in my ongoing commitment to the NHS and the fight against health inequalities.'

'I would like to thank my colleagues on BMA Council, GPC and West Pennine LMC, my family and my local community for all their support over the years.'
