RCP elects Professor Jane Dacre as new president

The Royal College of Physicians has elected professor Jane Dacre as its new president.

Professor Dacre, who held the role of medical director of the MRCP(UK) until January, beat off nine other candidates by securing 38% of all votes.

The professor, who has also led on the RCP’s research on women in medicine, is the director of University College London Medical School and a consultant physician and rheumatologist at the Whittington Hospital in North London.

She will replace outgoing president professor Richard Thompson, who has held the post since 2010.

She said: ‘I am honoured to have been elected as president of the Royal College of Physicians today. I look forward to the challenges ahead, and to helping physicians to have a stronger voice in the NHS.’
