Car smashes into GP surgery

By Ian Quinn

GPs and patients at a practice in Nottingham had a lucky escape after a car ploughed into a surgery building.

Fire crews had to be called to the scene of destruction at the Chilwell Meadows Surgery today, while GPs at the practice attended to the wounded driver, who escaped without serious injuries.

Dr Dick Churchill, GP principal at the practice, said the accident occurred this morning as a patient was preparing to park in front of the surgery.

‘We do wonder whether this is the start of a new trend in drive-thru surgeries,' he joked. 'Or is ram-raiding the next thing we might expect if patients can't get through on the phone to make an appointment?'
