NHS appraisals website back online

By Smitha Mundasad

The NHS Appraisals Toolkit website is back online, more than three weeks after an emergency shutdown due to security concerns.

The suspension, which started on 9 February, has caused huge disruption for many GPs facing looming appraisal deadlines, with a Pulse investigation finding that a third of trusts had been forced to cancel or research appraisals.

But in a statement the Department of Health said that ministers were now satisfied that the website can be restored safely after 'further security checks'.

The results of the checks have been shared with an expert panel, including members nominated by the BMA and the RCGP, who advised ministers to restore the site.

The system will continue to be checked and monitored in accordance with the Government's Data Handling Review, the DH said.
