GMC chair to step down

GMC chair Professor Sir Peter Rubin has announced that he will stand down from his post at the end of the year.

Professor Rubin said that although there would still be two years of his second term chairing the council left to run he believed ‘that going at this time is right for the organisation in terms of achieving an orderly transition and periodic refreshing of leadership’.

He added: ‘We have agreed our corporate strategy for 2014-17 and I am confident that I will be leaving an organisation that has excellent leadership from both the council and senior executive team, and the ability to take this ambitious programme of work forward.”

GMC council member Dr Hamish Wilson will also step down from his position in December, the regulator announced.
