GP drivers most likely to make car insurance claims

GPs are more likely than any other professional to make a car insurance claim, according to research from an insurance company.

The research by found that 28.6% of GPs had made a claim in the past five years, more than double the national average for all professions.

The study into more than six million quotes between January and November last year showed that eight of the top nine professionals most likely to make insurance claims were health workers.

Hospital consultants came just below GPs, with 26.2% making a claim, and one in four clinical psychologists had made claims.

Professor Andrew Smith, expert on occupational and health psychology from Cardiff University’s School of Psychology, said: ‘It’s not surprising to see that medical professionals had the highest proportion of claims in this study.

‘Healthcare is typically considered a highly stressful occupation, which could explain why GPs and other health professionals seem to make more insurance claims than others.’
