A GP practice for homeless patients has been rated outstanding by the CQC.
Luther Street Medical Centre has been running in Oxford for 30 years and also provides podiatry care and dental services.
In the CQC report, Professor Steve Field, the chief inspector of general practice, said that the areas of outstanding practice included volunteer support for patients attending appointments with other services, health checks for all patients who registered, ‘innovative treatment regimes’ and ‘visiting homeless patients in remote locations, which other services would find difficult to do.’
The service is currently run by Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.
According to the Oxford Mail, Stuart Bell, chief executive of the trust said: ‘Each day Luther Street offers outstanding care, with staff working with one another and patients to overcome challenges that can traditionally be a barrier to vulnerable people receiving care. The outstanding rating recognises the excellent care and service provided.’
The practice manager Stephen Moore said: ‘We’re committed to providing care to all members of the homeless community and the CQC rating is a real tribute to our work with homeless people over the years.’
