Professor David Haslam is a former chair and outgoing president of the RCGP, and has maintained a high profile in general practice during almost 35 distinguished years in the profession.
He was recently appointed chair of the NHS evidence advisory committee by NICE, giving him a key role in shaping the future of evidence-based medicine.
A GP since 1976, he is still practising in Cambridgeshire.
