When asked by Pulse, GPC negotiator Dr Dean Marshall said he did not have a favourite moment this year ‘due to the parlous state of general practice in the UK’.
And that has been his focus this year as the driving force behind the BMA’s ‘Your GP Cares’ campaign, which serves to highlight the pressure on GPs.
As GPC lead for clinical and prescribing, he has managed to negotiate a significant increase in the fee paid to GPs for the newly introduced Meningitis B and Meningitis ACWY vaccinations.
And Dr Marshall is currently working to address problems related to costs of medical indemnity and to appraisal, with the GPC organising a symposium in mid-September, bringing together the medical defence bodies, NHS England and the NHS Litigation Authority, in an attempt to resolve some of the problems.
