As a young medical director of Wessex LMC, Dr Laura Edwards has spent much of the past year working to increase awareness and the relevance of the LMC among trainees.
This has included presentations at all five local VTS schemes, writing a number of guides such as Getting Ready to Qualify, and inviting trainees to LMC meetings.
The results from a survey of trainees that she co-ordinated across Britain are about to be published, providing vital information on the opinions and aspirations of the next generation of GPs.
Her goal is to fight back against the continuous onslaught of negative publicity.
She says: “The messages from the Government are pushing away medical students and younger GPs from general practice at a time when the workforce and the public desperately needs them.”
