5 – Professor Mike Pringle

Professor Mike Pringle is a former chair of the RCGP and Pulse guest editor, and has enjoyed something of a return to prominence as the college's lead for revalidation.

He has played a critical role over the last year in driving through the development of revalidation, and particularly in honing its once fiendishly complicated CPD credits system.

The grassroots of general practice have often accused the college of operating from an ‘ivory tower', but Professor Pringle's laid-back style has gone down well with the rank and file, and his speech to last year's LMCs conference on changes to the credits system was well received.

He is also professor of general practice at the University of Nottingham.

What he says

‘Influence is always hard to define, but I see myself as one of a group of GPs preparing general practice to be the leading centre of the NHS. I'm one of the leaders for revalidation, but I'm also an academic with an interest in education and quality standards.'
