6 – Dr John Horder

Described by many as a founding father of general practice, Dr John Horder, an artist, writer, and musician, originally studied classics at Oxford before switching to medicine.

As an eminent physician, he fought tirelessly for the recognition of general practice as a specialty, against the indifference of the established medical colleges of the time.

Instrumental in establishing the RCGP, he served as its president between 1979 and 1982.
