9 – Dr James Cameron

Dr James Cameron was chair of the GMSC in 1965 and oversaw the negotiation of the 1966 GP Charter.

Morale in general practice was at rock bottom in the 1950s and 1960s. GPs felt like second-class doctors and there was no incentive to upgrade premises or engage with education. The Charter changed all that.
