Yet again it appears the assumption is being made that high referral equals bad practice.
There are circumstances where the opposite is true. I have a relatively high referral rate for continence-related illness, because I have an interest in the area, have a higher identification rate and am more aware of treatment options. At the other end of the spectrum, I would rather that a GP with little experience in an area seek advice rather than provide inadequate treatment to avoid the referral police.
