What we did
When new patients register, we gain consent to contact them by email and send them an induction pack that includes information on:
- Practice services (information on our clinics, opening times and staff).
- How to register for Patient Access – which allows online viewing of medical records, booking of appointments and ordering of prescriptions.
- The NHS Electronic Prescription Service.
- How to cancel appointments by text.
We did this about three years ago, when a staff member prepared the material from existing documents, with some information leaflets supplied by NHS England. Once a year, we review the material to keep it up to date.
The result
We have the highest use of online services of all practices in our CCG, saving reception staff lots of time.
