What we did
I developed a symptom checker on our website. It doesn’t constitute a full decision-making process, nor does it rely on having an email discussion with a doctor or waiting for a response (people want instant results these days).
It is simply an alphabetical list, with contacts, that patients can work from to determine the most appropriate health service for their needs.
It is the patients themselves who determine what their symptoms or needs are – exactly as they do when they talk to our receptionists at the time of booking. We plan to develop things further and define ‘patient pathways’ to direct patients from start to finish.
It is early days but patients are starting to use the symptom tracker.
