At a local level, my experience with our late Labour MP Gwyneth Dunwoody and our current Conservative MP Edward Tinson has been good – both sympathetic to the health profession and specifically to primary care.
Primary care should not become the prime focus for efficiency savings while secondary care is blithely allowed to function like a commercial unit whose principal focus is to increase its throughput and so raise its share of NHS resources.
Politicians need to be more honest about what is deliverable within the NHS, rather than make rash promises, raise hopes and then blame us for not delivering on their agendas.
