Dr Peter Williams: ‘Income tax rise would discourage out-of-hours GPs’

It is very difficult to know what each party proposes for the NHS.

Only the Tories seem to be guaranteeing no drop in funding but even so there will be things we can't afford. Plans to raise tax on income over £100K will dissuade some GPs from doing out-of-hours work, leaving it to less experienced GPs.

I'd like to know how each of the parties is going to pay to move work from secondary to primary care – the Department of Health appears to think we can do more work for less money. Labour's list of policies seems to be increasingly gimmicky and, again, raises unrealistic expectations among patients.
