Five-year MOT for GPs launched, ban threat over vaccines and Chinese medicine undercover

By Ian Quinn

Our roundup of news headline on Tuesday 2 March.

Revalidation goes national this morning, with the GMC's consultation covered in the Guardian, which labels it a five-year MOT to help spot poorly-performing doctors early.

The Times focuses on the possibility that doctors who refuse vaccinations against common infections risk losing their right to practise under revalidation.

For once the Daily Mail has another target to stick pins in, in the form of a double page investigation into the safety of Chinese medicine, including an undercover operation to find out just what it takes to get a herbalist to refer a patient to their GP.

Quite a bit, according to the investigation. The Mail reporters visited ten clinics complaining of classic migraine symptoms. ‘Under official guidelines a pharmacist would send you to a GP to investigate but just one of our group did so,' it found, as well as revealing some enormous charges for ‘cures'.
