GP brothers complete coast-to-coast bike ride

By Nigel Praities

Two GPs and their family have completed a challenging coast-to-coast mountain bike ride across the UK for charity.

Professor Tony Avery, a GP in Beeston, Nottingham, and head of primary care at the University of Nottingham, and his brother Dr Geoff Avery, a GP in Maltby near Rotherham, competed the bike ride with other members of their family across the north of England in order to fund a new 'Maggie's Centre' in Nottingham.

The family has collectively raised nearly £5,000 towards the building and running of the new centre planned for Nottingham City Hospital.

'This was a great challenge and it is fantastic that so many people have supported us and Maggie's Centres so generously,' said Professor Avery.
