Most enduring legacy

GPs haven't heard a peep from Lord Darzi all year, but his name lives on via his very own network of expensive white elephants.

Every trust was ordered to have at least one Darzi centre, but not all have seen the number of registered patients that had been anticipated. Indeed, if one senior BMA leader is to be believed, staff at some centres have spent much of their year ‘sitting around, reading the papers'.

Perhaps not for much longer though, as PCTs scramble over each other to close down the centres they have only just opened… soon, perhaps, it will be only Pulse's Christmas awards that keep the great man's name alive.
