NHS Health Checks

A health check offered in GP surgeries and local pharmacies for adults in England between the ages of 40-74, with the aim of helping patients lower their risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease. Patients will be invited for a check once every five years. At the appointment, their risk of the conditions is assessed and they will be offered personalised advice and support to help them lower it. The introduction of the checks across England started in 2009, but full implementation of the programme is not expected until 2012/13.
