'The NHS Alliance supports many of these demands in the manifesto. We're especially concerned about the fragmentation and reorganisation of primary care, which could harm the care of patients. We agree that we don't need any more management consultants, they are a waste of money and their advice on the whole isn't much good either, and we feel that there needs to be more GP input to NICE and strategy implementation in the NHS generally.'

'The NAPC the independent voice of primary care; is happy to lend its support to the following of their manifesto pledges: stop fragmenting primary care - recognise GPs' central role in providing continuity; preserve clinical autonomy - release GPs from political targets and inappropriate referral management; cut waste on Darzi contracts, managers and consultants - but protect front-line services; no new work without pay - work moved out of hospitals must be properly resourced; turn general practice woman friendly - implement proposals for maternity cover and childcare tax relief; make NICE relevant to GPs - boost GP involvement by paying for attendance on committees; support GPs on care homes - give the profession resources for care of the elderly, not blame.'
